SEI Names Christine Conwell Director of Planning and Operations

SEI is pleased to welcome Christine Conwell as the new Director of Planning and Operations.  Previously, Christine acted as the Managing Director of the NSF-NASA Center for Chemical Evolution, a Phase II Center for Chemical Innovation based at Georgia Tech. She managed the day-to-day operation of the center, which included facilitating collaborations among the 80 members who were located across the US, overseeing project milestones, and leading the education, outreach and diversity initiatives. In her new role with SEI, Christine will be responsible for overseeing the operations of SEI, including supporting large multidisciplinary energy research efforts, strategic planning efforts, telling the Georgia Energy story through communications and marketing, and coordinating events.

Christine noted that she is excited about what this new role at SEI means for her. “I love the Georgia Tech approach to larger missions through the Interdisciplinary Research Institutes and moreso, being able to collectively bring together our research initiatives to shape how people think about energy,” says Christine.  “This new opportunity will allow me to further my passion of bringing teams together to advance a cause.”

Christine received her undergraduate degree in molecular biology and chemistry from Westminster College in Pennsylvania, which is continuously ranked as a top school for women and minorities in STEM. She then earned a Ph.D. in biochemistry from Georgia Tech. Christine’s professional passion lies in discovering and addressing the societal implications of science and technology through a team science approach. When Christine is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, 2 adorable boys who are 8 and 5, and cheering on her favorite Pittsburgh teams.
