Scott McWhorter is the lead of federal energy initiatives and strategy with the Georgia Tech Strategic Energy Institute, where he leads efforts to connect campus and grow Georgia Tech’s energy research portfolio. He also serves as chair of the board of directors for the Southeast Hydrogen Energy Alliance and serves as a tech startup and business development consultant. He is a founder of FuelX Innovations, a technology startup developing innovative hydrogen storage systems.
McWhorter is the former division director of Clean Energy Research at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL), where he led programs across the Department of Energy’s Office of Science, EERE, OE, ARPA-E and FE raising more than $30 million in new funds during his tenure. His Savannah River career spanned 21 years, including three years spent as a technical advisor with the Energy Department’s EERE Hydrogen Fuel Cell Technologies Office in Washington D.C., and developing and serving in leadership with two Manufacturing USA Institutes.
McWhorter serves on multiple advisory boards for Clean Cities and university research consortiums such as Palmetto Clean Cities and Florida Solar Energy Center at the University of Central Florida.
